Are busy schedules combined with stress and anxiety preventing you from living a happy and healthy life? Most of us don’t even realize how much time is spent focusing on our problems and to-do lists compared to the things that keep us living in the present moment.
The good news is that you can improve your mood, create stability, and boost your overall health by taking these 9 steps below:
1. Let go of the past
The past was designed to teach us lessons and prepare us for everything that we encounter today. View the past as a building block that made you stronger for everything that’s ahead and kiss it good-bye! Experts have shown that consuming ourselves with stressful and traumatic thoughts can increase your risk of experiencing chronic pain. Therefore, I would recommend that you become aware of your negative thinking habits and replace them with positive ones.
2. Stay away from toxic environments
Staying away from negative people and situations is one of the smartest moves you can make if you truly want to lead a happy and healthy lifestyle. Give yourself permission to say no to people who exhibit toxic behaviors and drain your energy. In most cases, individuals who want to create drama in your life are expressing their own feelings about their current life situation. You should never feel guilty about doing what’s best for your health.
3. Increase exercise
Taking on exercise is not just for getting physically fit. According to scientists, exercise can boost your mood and mental health while increasing your energy levels.
4. Eat healthy
Poor nutrition plays a significant role in our overall well-being. Adding good nutrition to our diets can help us to establish a healthy balance that contributes to physical and mental health. Seek advice from a doctor or nutritionist to help you create a meal plan that best suits your lifestyle.
5. Spend more time in the outdoors
Individuals are living in a culture where we are spending more time glued to our desks and screens than outdoors. Findings over the years have shown that spending more time in nature can have positive results that allow you to feel more happy and healthy.
Hike in the woods or catch a few sun rays to get your daily dose of Vitamin D. For some people, Vitamin D was proven to be more effective than taking antidepressants. However, studies are still being conducted to provide more research.
6. Be more confident
We don’t give ourselves enough credit when it comes to feeling confident. How many times have you felt like you weren’t good enough? Do you talk badly about yourself when things don’t go as planned?
Stop doubting yourself and focus on the positive things you’ve accomplished recently. The more you focus on the positive aspects of yourself, the faster you will be on your way to leading a happy and healthy lifestyle.
7. Get plenty of rest
One of the best things you can do for yourself is to prioritize your sleeping pattern. Humans require sleep for optimal health, and not getting enough sleep can cause all sorts of health-related issues such as impacting your ability to focus, memory loss, and mood swings. No one wants to spend the day feeling like the grinch who stole Christmas and exhausted!
8. Declutter and clean your space
Take a few moments during your free time to clear your home. Even if you despise cleaning the clutter, remind yourself that it will all be worth it in the end. Just a few minutes a day can help you boost your mood and create a cozy living space.

9. Find peace and mindfulness
Living a happy and healthy life starts with the willingness to achieve peace and mindfulness daily. Have you ever noticed how your day only gets worse if you’re in a bad mood? Yep! I’ve been there too…many times! However, over time I’ve found ways to help me stay positive and you can too.
Some of my favorite mindfulness practices include listening to podcasts, going to the beach, yoga, and meditation. It might sound silly for some, but the outcome is worth the effort.
